Cargo flights for medical supplies

During the early stage of the COVID-91 pandemic, we have been carriers for critical medical supplies. We have operated cargo flights, in order to bring critical medical supplies from China, most necessary for the hospitals in Romania. Due to the limited range of 737-800 airplane, a refueling stop had to be planned, about mid-way to China. The best located airport we identified for refueling, was Almaty, located in south-eastern part of Kazakhstan, surrounded by the Zailyisky Alatau mountains, having the highest peak of 4979 m. When departing from Almaty, upon entering China, our route was crossing Tian Shan mountains (Mountains of Heaven) with the highest peak of 7439 m. For overflying these mountains, we developed and published special drift down routes (to be used in case of decompression or engine failure). After crossing the Tian Shan mountains, we were flying above the Gobi Desert, south of the Mongolian border, without many options in case diversion is needed.

Fly with confidence with Blue Air

2020 was a very important year for us: we successfully and safely launched Blue Air operation on many new airports - Amsterdam Airport, Paris Charles de Gaulle, London Heathrow. Although total number of flights was less than 2019 and pandemic has been a very big challenge for pur team, we have managed to resume flying again, during the COVID pandemic. We equipped all our crew members with complete protection suits, including overall, gloves, goggles, facial masks and shoe covers. We encouraged passengers return flying, explaining there are no COVID-19 associated risks onboard our airplanes because during flight cabin air is filtered using HEPA filters and that we are performing cabin nebulization after each flight. Although we transported many passengers that were tested COVID-19 positive after the flight, due to our protective measures, no Blue Air crew members or other passengers were infected while onboard.

You can find out more about all the safety measures on our flights on our dedicated page.
