Christmas markets

Christmas markets

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Did you know that the first Christmas markets in Europe were held in Germany, between the 14th and 15th century? They represented a celebration of Christmas and marked the beginning of the Advent. Various events and Christmas-themed decorations animated the streets one month before Christmas.

Christmas markets have become a tradition worldwide and all the big cities are in some sort of a competition with each other every year, trying to organize the most colorful and vivid markets and to attract the highest number of visitors from all around the world.

If you’re thinking of planning a trip in December, you should definitely consider these destinations, especially if you’re interested in some unique Christmas gifts.

Sibiu, Brasov and Bucharest (Romania) competing with major European cities

One of the countries that is definitely worth visiting for the Christmas markets is Romania. This country has it all: sea, mountains and wonderful people.

When it comes to Christmas-themed events, there are three cities fighting for the most beautiful market in Romania and even competing with greater European cities: Sibiu, Brasov and Bucharest.
While these Christmas markets will impress you with their warm and welcoming atmosphere (despite the low temperatures during this period), the architecture, living style and other elements of these cities will make you want to come back again during summer, to get lost on their historical streets.
