Natural Setting
Finland is situated in Northern Europe, bordering with Sweden, Norway and Russia. It is known as the “country of a thousand lakes”, a modest number since, in reality, there are over 188000 existing lakes. The largest of them all is Saimaa, which hosts one of the rarest seal species in the world. If you’ll reach Inari, a rare landscape awaits you, having clear, deep waters and numerous green areas.
Starting from September and until March, you can see the Aurora Borealis, an extraordinary natural phenomenon. In the northern part of the country, Laponia, “The Northern Lights” are visible almost two hundred nights a year. Another specific natural phenomenon of this country are the white nights, which are most intense in June and July.
In Finland, the cold season is magical. To experience the fullest of this surprising country, do not forget about the over two million saunas which can be found here. These are part of the local tradition – A sauna can even be found in the Parlament!
Good to know
Visitors may experience Finnish people as shy and not very talkative. However, the first impression will quickly turn into a surprise as when you first break the ice in Finland, you find yourself in a very active discussion.
